The Sandbox is proud to be Hilton Head Island’s premiere destination for early childhood, hands-on play and learning. Since we were founded in 2005, our primary goal has been educating young children through age-appropriate, interactive activities and exhibits that enable children to play freely while exploring their creativity and discovering the world around them.
Located just off Pope Avenue on the south end of Hilton Head Island, The Sandbox is packed with 2500 square-feet of approachable activities that are just right for busy toddlers, elementary school-aged children and their families or caregivers.
Designed to allow kids to play freely while discovering their surroundings—the museum is the ideal place to let your little one to lead the way! While our outreach has expanded, our primary goal remains: positively impact the lives of young children through age-appropriate play and inspire memorable moments for children and families in the process. Our child-friendly environment is as safe as it is fun—a place where messes are evidence of creativity, where new friends are just around the corner and where exploring new things doesn’t feel quite so scary.

Our youngest visitors can play safely in Charlie’s Perfect Playplace where infants and toddlers can explore freely in a space designed specifically for crawling, sliding and playing on all fours!
Bigger kids love to climb and pretend atop The Adventurer where they can explore the high seas on this playscape modeled after a 16th century Spanish galleon.
In total the museum offers 11 hands-on exhibits, a weekly, staff-guided Imagination Hour and a variety of other programs and annual events for members, local visitors and tourists.
